Switzerland, University of Zurich (Department of Economics) – Pre-docs from low- and middle-income countries or with a refugee background 

The Department of Economics, University of Zurich, Switzerland is looking for exceptionally talented, highly motivated candidates with a strong background in economics or related quantitative fields, experience with data analysis, an interest in economic research and a clear intention to pursue a Ph.D. They particularly value curiosity, perseverance, and a demonstrated commitment to research and learning.

Specifically, candidates need:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in the last 5 years with strong grades, including strong math skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Recommendation letter from 1-3 letter writers who are familiar with academic research (professor, research supervisor, or similar)
  • Ideally, the candidates also have strong knowledge of STATA, R or similar statistical software programs

Eligible candidates are those with strong academic potential who also meet one of the following criteria:

  • Low- or lower-middle-income country background, or
  • First-generation university student from an upper-middle-income country, or
  • Refugee/asylum/forced displacement background
