Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will kickoff African Heritage Month on Friday, September 1, with a special African Diaspora Entrepreneurship Summit from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place. Montgomery County is the first in the nation to proclaim the month of September as African Heritage Month.
The annual event will include a reception hosted by members of Montgomery County’s African Affairs Advisory Group and will feature musical entertainment and African cuisine. A proclamation will be issued by Leggett. Representatives from Governor Larry Hogan’s office and the office of Congressman Chris Van Hollen will also present citations.
Information will be provided at the celebration on other events taking place during September commemorating African Heritage Month. MORE
